You Got It "Shadow"

Shadow, also known as "You Got It" back in his racing days turned out to be a pretty successful horse in that part of his life. Shadow is a 1998 pacing gelding, which now makes him a happy and healthy 15 years young. Exactly what I was looking for. Shadow is by Electric Yankee out of a Kelly Lobell mare named Glen Head. His immediate breeding is not very impressive, but he does go back to No Nukes, a famous pacing stallion. No Nukes grandbabies tend to make awesome riding horses, so I was very pleased to hear this information and reassured myself I made the right choice that day at SRF. Shadow was born in Indiana, his mom had six other foals and out of all of them, he was the best racer. He thankfully never went through sales as a yearling, which leads us to believe his breeders were pretty well invested in him. As I had said earlier, he was pretty successful. Shadow made 10 starts in his career and won six of them, as well as coming in second for two of them. He had a success rate of 80% for finishing in the money and he made about $62,000 and his record was 1:55, which is pretty fast! Shadow has been off the track since 2.  I have no idea where Shadow was before he landed himself at SRF or what he was doing, we suspect he was a trail horse, being he was wearing all four shoes shortly before SRF got him.

After having Shadow for about two months, I decided to start snooping around. I was able to obtain his race records and a few other things. I also found that there is a note in the US Trotter database not to release or duplicate Shadow's papers. Which sounded strange, but I think it may be because he has been part of SRF's system for quite some time. I was able to get in touch with Shadow's breeder, who is 82 years old. I spoke with him and his wife. The wife seemed to vaguely remember 'You Got It' but her husband couldn't remember him. They nicely gave me their son's number who I also spoke with. He told me Shadow was very difficult to train and absolutely CRAZY in his youth. He was very successful for them and at the age of 2, he was sold, in a private sale. Shadow sold for $90,000.00 and never raced again. That's what I needed to hear, no track injuries. This was great start for me.

I know virtually NOTHING about this breed, so we are learning together. In our journey I have learned a whole new definition of love. I have never met a more willing animal that gives his all. No matter what my day holds, it all leaves me when I see him. He comes right to me and seems just as happy to see me as I am him. He has brought me so much joy and so much happiness that I was lacking, and when I made the decision to bring him home, I made one single promise to him, Forever.
